United Kingdom
Posted on Thursday, September 7, 2023

Location: Remote First in the UK with access to our London HQ
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000

Hey, are you looking for a purpose? Let us introduce ourselves… 👋

We are CybSafe. We’re on a mission to revolutionise the way society addresses the human aspect of cyber security 🚀

We’re building the world’s most intelligent behavioural security platform to combat the rise of sophisticated scams, fraud, and malicious hacking.

We’re using the power of science, data and cognitive technology to transform the way we address the human aspect of cyber security, and create a safer and better digital world for everyone.

We’re a tribe of risk-takers, game-changers, free-thinkers and doers. And we’re passionate about the impact we have on our planet through our software and our voices.

We are looking for a highly motivated, talented and creative User Researcher to join our Science and Research team to conduct evidence-based user research. You are fascinated with people-centric security, human decision making and thrive in solving problems in a fast-paced environment.

The role of the User Researcher is to lead and generate actionable insights into the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of human behaviour and decision making to influence cyber security behaviours. These insights will be applied to improve CybSafe’s product offering with the objective of optimising cyber security outcomes (e.g. improving people’s security behaviours and reducing cyber risk).

Passion. Impact. Transparency. Autonomy. Purpose. Diversity. Belonging.
If these resonate with you, come join us and make a difference.

Diversity & Inclusion - we don't just talk the talk...

We believe in being a diverse and inclusive tribe. There are no excuses for anything less. We recruit, employ, train and promote qualified applicants regardless of race, religion, colour, national origin, sex, disability, age, veteran status, and other protected statuses as required by applicable law. We are aiming for “more” than great - we believe that truly diverse teams can do impossible things and we want to do those things.

We have created a survey to better understand those that want to work at CybSafe.
This is an anonymous and voluntary survey, used to help us see how different demographics progress through our hiring process, and where we need to make improvements to give them a better chance of succeeding.
By filling out the below survey, you agree that we can use your responses for the purposes we've mentioned above. If the link doesn't work, please clear your cache & cookies and try again.

Please do let us know of any adjustments you may need to support you with your application.

Your role in this mission...

The Science and Research team focus on four core work streams: research and innovation, user research, thought leadership, and wider education. The role will particularly involve improving our product with applied user research, and thereby lies at the heart of the user research work stream. It will involve a balance of research, identifying tangible improvements, and being part of all aspects of the product development process as a subject matter expert. The role may also involve working as a member of the research team on externally funded research projects.

Our perfect person is intensely curious and will have exceptional abilities to turn research insights into tangible product improvements and capabilities. You will have experience in running and interpreting evidence-based research and incorporating this into your work.

You love technology and it is a significant part of your everyday life. New technologies and the potential they have to change the world excite you. You look forward to working with new tech and enjoy talking about it with friends and colleagues.

At the early stages of your career? Or looking for that next step up?
We welcome applications with a range of experience for this role!

Areas you’ll own:

  • Planning, designing and conducting research to understand people’s needs and behaviours to support the development of CybSafe’s product.
  • Conducting user research from start to finish. This includes (but is not limited to): defining research questions, planning approach, conducting literature reviews, setting up studies, analysing findings and relating them to the product.
  • Collecting and analysing data through a wide array of user research methods, such as field studies, online surveys, competitive analyses, interviews, card sorting, diary studies, and live A/B testing.

  • Actively participating in cross-functional team discussions to identify and define end-to-end user flows on the platform.
  • Building the wider CybSafe Science and Research team culture (e.g. sharing knowledge with the wider team and supporting team growth and development).
  • Championing user research and UX methodologies, approaches and techniques across the organisation; coaching others in improving their user research skills.
  • Preparing and disseminating research outputs and reports for industry or academic audiences (e.g. speaking about our research at industry and practitioner events).
  • Liaising with external research organisations, universities and networks.
  • Mentoring team interns and work placement students.

We’ll be looking out for a few (not all!) of the below demonstrated in your application:

  • A PhD or MSc qualification in psychology, human-computer interaction, or related domain/discipline.
  • Designing and conducting usability studies (e.g. surveys and interviews).
  • Experience in creating user experience outputs (e.g. user journeys, wireframes, test plans, insight reports and user personas/archetypes).
  • Use of experimental methods (e.g. A/B testing).

  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Staying calm under pressure, prioritising multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • An abundance of empathy for users.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with creativity.

And any experience with this would be great but not essential for your application to be considered:

  • Qualification or research experience in usable security, behavioural economics/science or human factors.
  • Knowledge and passion for cyber security.
  • Knowledge of behavioural change models/frameworks (e.g. COM-B, MINDSPACE).
  • Experience in research protocol writing.
  • Experience in qualitative software packages (e.g. NVivo or ATLAS-ti).
  • Knowledge of a recruitment platform (e.g. Prolific).
  • Awareness of, and some experience in, the software development process.
